The Jacksonville Jaguars are making an addition to their front office under GM James Gladstone.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the Jaguars are hiring Brian Xanders to a front office role with the team. What Xanders’ exact job responsibilities will include was not reported by Jones.
Xanders got his start in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons back in 1994, and he remained with the team through 2007, holding a variety of different roles from working on the player personnel side of things to working with the football operations staff.
In 2008, Xanders became the Denver Broncos‘ assistant general manager and was then named the GM in 2009 and held that title through the 2011 season. Xanders’ teams would go 20-28 during that stretch with one playoff appearance.
Most recently, Xanders has been with the LA Rams since 2017 as a Senior Personnel Executive, and of course, worked closely with Gladstone during his time there.
A recent article from the Rams’ team site highlighted some of Xanders’ responsibilities when he was with the team:
“Xanders scouts players at every position throughout the year, with a specialty in outside linebackers. Recently, he did extensive film study and sourcing on Jared Verse, the reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He also works with pro personnel and creates matchup-based scouting reports during the season, among other research projects.”
With free agency and the NFL draft behind us, and the dust having settled a bit, if Gladstone is going to make any additional changes to the front office, now is the most likely time.
