The 2024 college football season ushered in the beginning of a new era. A 16-team SEC and a 12-team playoff highlighted a wild year in college football. But 2025 has a chance to be even more unpredictable.

A number of the best teams from last season are undergoing a quarterback change this offseason. Teams like Oregon, Ohio State, and Notre Dame, while in the SEC, there will be a lot of new faces at the helm. Texas, Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Auburn will all have new quarterbacks starting for their respective programs.

Now that spring ball is behind us, college football experts across the sport are ranking the best in the nation. Joel Klatt of Fox Sports shared his top 25, and Paul Myerburg of USA TODAY Sports released his latest 1-136 re-rank. So how did the SEC stack up in the newest re-rank?

Let’s take a look.

Where SEC Teams Ranked in the 1-136 Re-rank

1. Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns are a talented squad but they’re facing a ton of turnover on offense, especially along the offensive line. Will Arch Manning be the answer to the national title drought that everyone expects him to be?

4. Georgia

The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off an SEC title and they beat Texas twice last year. Kirby Smart has a stacked roster but a question at quarterback is the only reason they’re behind the Longhorns.

7. LSU Tigers

The LSU Tigers have one of the most experienced signal callers in college football in Garrett Nussmeier. Will that translate to a College Football Playoff berth?

10. Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama failed to meet expectations in year one of the Kalen Deboer era, but his history suggests he’ll have the Tide contending for everything in 2025.

12. Tennessee Volunteers

Quarterback turnover is never fun, but especially in the way it went down between Tennessee and Nico Iamaleava. Still, Josh Heupel is a really good coach and has benefitted from transfer quarterbacks in the past. Could it work out again in Knoxville with Joey Aguilar?

15. Ole Miss Rebels

Ole Miss is one of the top 25 teams in college football I expect not to be by the end of the season. By all accounts, last year’s roster was the best in the country, and it couldn’t come through in tight ball games with an experienced quarterback. Will first-year starter Austin Simmons fare better?

21. Florida

If the Florida Gators can navigate one of the toughest schedules in the country and finish the season with nine or 10 wins, they could be a playoff spot.

25. Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma Sooners defensive lineman Jayden Jackson (65) celebrates during a college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Alabama Crimson Tide at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024.

Like Florida, Oklahoma is expected to have one of the tougher schedules in college football, but when you take a deep dive into it, it may not be as tough as it looks by year’s end.

27. South Carolina Gamecocks

The Gamecocks were a play or two away from being a College Football Playoff participant last year. They did lose a lot on defense but still have one of the more dynamic quarterbacks in the country leading the way in LaNorris Sellers.

30. Texas A&M Aggies

Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies have a defense that will give teams fits, they just need the offense to show more consistency.

35. Auburn Tigers

The Auburn Tigers have a talented group of wide receivers for Jackson Arnold to throw to. Can he erase the struggles of 2024 from his memory and have the bounce-back season Auburn is expecting?

37. Missouri Tigers

Drew Pribula comes over from Penn State to take the reigns of the Missouri Tigers. He’s an athletic dual-threat quarterback, and the Tigers have some intriguing pieces. However, losing Luther Burden and Theo Wease on the outside hurts.

62. Arkansas Razorbacks

Taylen Green is one of the more fun quarterbacks to watch across the country but the Razorbacks just don’t have the talent to compete with the best in the SEC. They made strides last year, but Sam Pittman is still very much on the hot seat.

81. Kentucky Wildcats

The Brock Vandergriff experiment didn’t go well and the Kentucky Wildcats will give Zach Calzada his third opportunity at the SEC after an incredible season with Incarnate Word. Will this go-round turn out any differently?

82. Vanderbilt Commodores

It was a magical season for the Vanderbilt Commodores, who beat Alabama and NC State last season. Does Diego Pavia have a few more tricks up his sleeve to keep Vandy bowling in 2025?

99. Mississippi State Bulldogs

It’s an uphill battle for Jeff Lebby and the Mississippi State Bulldogs, but his offense showed signs of life in the second half of last season. They’ll be relying on a host of incoming transfers this season to quickly turn things around in Starkville.
