After a week where the Tigers stayed at No. 11, Auburn has moved up three spots in the latest USA TODAY Baseball Coaches Poll. Auburn jumped to No. 8 in the rankings after a weekend series win over Tennessee and a 3-0 victory against Samford. The Volunteers dropped six spots, going from No. 6 to No. 12. The Tigers are now 33-15 on the season and 13-11 in the SEC. Their series win over the weekend was the eighth of the season for Auburn.

The week started with a Tuesday night victory against the Samford Bulldogs. In the 3-0 win, the Tigers were led by a great pitching performance by Christian Chatterton. The freshman pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 10 batters for Samford. He gave way to Andrea Alvarez, who pitched two innings and struck out three batters. Ryan Hetzler picked up the save for his first of the season. Auburn jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first after Cade Belyeu hit a two-run home run.

Auburn outscored Tennessee in their weekend series 18-7 and took two of three games. Due to the weather, the series had plenty of stops and starts. Auburn took game one 6-1. Ike Irish hit a two-run home run in the first inning and hit an RBI single in the third to give Auburn a 3-0 advantage. Chris Rembert hit a home run in the eighth to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead. Pitcher Samuel Dutton won his sixth game of the year after pitching over six innings. He struck out eight batters in the opening game.

Auburn lost game two 5-4 in extra innings that carried over into Sunday due to the weather. Tennessee’s Andrew Fisher scored the winning run after Chris Newstrom hit a single. Auburn won game three on Sunday, 8-1 in seven seven-inning game. Auburn led 7-0 after five innings, and Irish scored three of the runs. Chatterton picked up the win, pitching three innings. He allowed zero runs and just two hits.

The SEC is once again featured heavily in the USA TODAY Baseball Coaches Poll. The top ten featured Texas at No. 1 with Arkansas behind them at No. 2. LSU (No. 4), Georgia (No. 6), and Vanderbilt (No. 10) rounded out the top ten. Other teams in the conference featured in the polls were Oklahoma (No. 16), Alabama (No. 20), and Ole Miss (No. 22). The Tigers will not see the field again until Thursday when they begin a series with South Carolina.
