Which of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ nine selections would you consider their best value pick?
Each of the 32 NFL beat writers for The Athletic answered this question for their respective teams. When it came to the Jaguars, Jeff Howe selected Virginia Tech running back Bhayshul Tuten, who Jacksonville took in the fourth round.
GM James Gladstone thought that landing Tuten at this point in the draft was a pretty good value as well because he didn’t think the running back would be available at that point.
“I must say once Tuten ran that 40, I don’t know that I would have guessed that he would be available on Day 3, but nonetheless, he found himself there taken off pretty quickly at 104,” Gladstone said after the draft via Jaguars on SI.
Tuten was the fastest running back in this year’s draft, running a 4.32-second 40 at the NFL combine.
After a productive 2023 season for Tuten that included rushing for 875 yards at 5.0 yards per attempt, he put together a career season this past year, rushing for 1,150 yards at a hefty 6.3 yards per rush.
With that speed, Tuten brings added big-play ability to the Jaguars’ backfield. Among all college running backs in 2024, Tuten’s 6.3 yards per rush ranked 20th. He was also 15th in missed tackles forced, 15th in rushes of 10-plus yards, and 10th in rushes of 15 or more yards, according to PFF.
With Tuten and LeQuint Allen joining Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby, there quickly became a lot of competition at the running back position for the Jaguars. But understandably so, because this is a position that will be relied on heavily under Liam Coen in his offensive system.
